Calling all change champions: White Ribbon Day Nov 25th .
Today is White Ribbon Day, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against women. It is a day that symbolises the need for enormous social change world wide. In Australia, 1 in 3 women will experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime (PUBLICATION: ABS (Australian Bureau of Statistics) (2006) Personal Safety Survey Australia. Canberra: Australian Bureau of Statistics (Cat. 4906.0). The core strategy in creating social change is to appeal to men to actively oppose violence against women and challenge disrespectful talk about women within their family, social and work networks. To champion change.
So what makes a good change champion?
· Some-one who perseveres in the face of pessimism and cynicism
· Some-one who has the skills to create conversations of change
· Some-one who maintains hope and remains optimistic.
· Some-one who has the courage to speak uncomfortable truths.
If you have men in your life that fit this criteria, please forward this post, and ask them to wear a White Ribbon with hope, commitment and optimism.
